This portfolio contains an overview, preface, acknowledgements, and sample chapters from her memoir which recounts her life as a woman married to a man who became increasingly demanding and difficult as the years went by. His control over her became absolute until she was startled by a friend of many years who asked her, "What is wrong with you?" This began her awakening. It was only then that she began to realized the depth of her own despair.

This book is the story of her escape from his physical and mental control. It is a story of ups and downs, of fleeting happiness and sadness, but ultimately, it is a story of her victory. It is meant to celebrate the strength of women. It is meant to be a clarion call to others, both men and women, whose lives are likewise controlled by another. It is meant to be a source of joy and enlightenment, as well as an encouragement to those trapped in marriages that are unwittingly toxic. It celebrates the strength we can gather from one another and from within when pushed to the edge of ourselves.
